This is a picture of our class room in a community Ruka in southern Chile. While we used it as a classroom, usually this is the gathering place for the community. Having class sitting around a fire is an amazing experience.
- The huge thatched hut that you see there is a “Ruka.” You can also see our two big buses that we used for transportation.
Another picture of a Ruka. This is the Ruka where we had our classes (with the fire pit inside).
This is a quick photo taken from within the old growth forest that we walked through to learn about medicinal herbs. Before entering we had to ask permission of the spirits who dwell over the forest.
- El Lago Budi. We had a full morning of classes outside looking out onto this lake. Try and concentrate on a lecture while being surrounded by scenery like this!
A huge white turkey! He was the leader of his “turkey pack.”
This picture, taken from the bus, doesn’t do justice to the clear beauty of this river’s water. And rivers just like this run all throughout southern Chile.
A huge field full of cattle. A common sight in southern Chile. (Once again taken from the bus…)
A view from beautiful Bariloche, Argentina.
A closer view of some snow-capped mountains in Bariloche, Argentina
Many of the buildings in Bariloche have this same astounding wooden architecture. This building in particular is a restaurant.
- Beautiful church in Bariloche. The town is under a huge influence from Europe, and always has been.
Delicious hot chocolate in Bariloche. Literally just a cup of melted chocolate.
My dream apartment in Bariloche. This is where I hope to live when I return to Bariloche some day. These apartments look right out onto the lake.
Just a pretty little country road back in Southern Chile.
So there you go! Just a very select few of the pictures that I took while on my excursion to Southern Chile and Bariloche, Argentina. The southernmost part of South America is just too beautiful to fully capture in pictures.
Now I find myself struggling to re-adjust to life here in Arica where I can wear shorts and a t-shirt again everyday… I miss Southern Chile very much.
